Either way is fine. Just be sure to modify the WordPress.org flow (if necessary) as the WebMentions plugin, which I imagine the majority of users would be using unless they decide to roll their own, is now apparently adding the endpoint directly and will cause the potential conflict we've seen.

I'm guessing it searches for the endpoint and only directs users to add it if it's not found, so you're likely fine.
