I know there was a brid.gy issue which recently answered the Twitter problem: https://github.com/snarfed/bridgy/issues/713

Perhaps there's something similar for Facebook?

I've been following the conversation on https://github.com/pfefferle/wordpress-semantic-linkbacks/issues/71 which I think is closely related as it's primarily Facebook comments with emoji that seem to be causing the root problem.

I'll spend some time in the next two days to see if i can stumble across the "fix" snarfed did and close this out. Thanks for the reminder @pfefferle.

@zack06007 It looks to me like this plugin isn't being actively maintained and I don't even see it in the main WordPress.org repository anymore. It's also possible that with the recent WP 4.7 update some of the functionalities have broken further. The last commit to the code was almost a year and a half ago with the bulk of the code being even older.

If you'd like to maintain a lot of this functionality in a better way with some smaller discrete plugins I would recommend the following:
- [**JetPack** ](https://wordpress.org/plugins/jetpack/)or [**Social Media Network Poster**](https://wordpress.org/plugins/social-networks-auto-poster-facebook-twitter-g/) for syndicating/sharing your content to Facebook, Twitter, et al. JetPack is simpler to set up, but SNAP provides a lot more customization and has some good documentation.
- [**IndiwWeb Plugin for WordPress**](https://wordpress.org/plugins/indieweb/) - This will allow you to add some sub-plugins like Webmention and some simple comment plugins which will let your comments/likes/etc. come back to your pages and posts. The Syndication Links plugin within the IndieWeb plugin will allow you to easily display which services you syndicated individual content.
- [**Brid.gy**](http://brid.gy) - Connecting to this free service will give you comments, likes, and reactions from major social hubs like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, G+, and Flicker to come back to your original content in a pretty way. It is expandable to other platforms if you'd like to contribute to the code base. Bridgy uses their open APIs to bootstrap the new W3C Webmention spec to send the comments back to your site using the Webmention plugin within the IndieWeb Plugin mentioned above. Webmention is essentially an internet wide @mention functionality much like Twitter and Medium have.

If you need more help in setting these up or using them, feel free to visit http://indieweb.org/WordPress which has lots of documentation or ask in the [IndieWeb chat](http://indieweb.org/irc) where someone can help point you in the right direction.

Malcolm, thanks for the reminder of those social RSS feeds. I'd seen them a few months back and meant to set up a reader specifically for consuming content from Twitter, Facebook, et al. I'll have to delve back into it in the new year as having a better reader is becoming more important/interesting to me.

Certainly an interesting and different way to do #annotation of older sources for the web. #IndieWeb

UI: Duration doesn't make sense in Read post kind · Issue #65 · dshanske/indieweb-post-kinds https://github.com/dshanske/indieweb-post-kinds/issues/65

When making a "Read" post in which data exists in the "time" tab for published dt and updated dt, the output displays more like one would anticipate with a music post type (or jam, listen, play, watch, travel) using start/end vocabulary instead and outputting a "Duration".

Duration may make sense if one were doing a start/end time for their reading, but then the scraper shouldn't be automatically pulling in the publish/update dates/times. Personally I'd prefer to let the publication time of my post indicate when the thing was read and have Post Kinds indicate the publication of the original piece I was reading.

Possibly better would be an if/then statement to differentiate types and for Read types outputting a date/time for the original publication and/or potentially an updated date/time if it exists.

At present, the issue is most common on New York Times posts for which the scraper pulls in the correct metadata.

Example: http://boffosocko.com/2016/11/14/chris-aldrich-is-reading-facebook-restores-iconic-vietnam-war-photo-it-censored-for-nudity/
![duration](https://cloud.githubusercontent.com/assets/5882943/20466247/6e5f67aa-af24-11e6-9d57-f83c3928163f.PNG)

For a small portion of IndieWeb sites, the scraper is returning data in these fields that are identical for both the published and updated fields which returns an odd duration result as well. (See: http://boffosocko.com/2016/11/11/chris-aldrich-is-reading-fragmentions-for-poets/) Perhaps if the date/time in both fields are identical, there could be some error checking to prevent a spurious output since published shouldn't equal updated.

@evrenk WordPress.org is DEFINITELY compatible!! If you want to get started take a look at https://wordpress.org/plugins/indieweb/ and https://indieweb.org/WordPress for more details.

While the siren song of Medium seems strong, you don't necessarily own it all and can't control it to the extent you can on your own site. I'd recommend checking out IndieWeb-ifying your WordPress install and leverage the value of your existing social networks like Medium, Twitter, Facebook, et al by syndicating your content from WordPress to those other sites. Medium has a good WordPress plugin [https://wordpress.org/plugins/medium/] for copying (selectively at your discretion) your content from WordPress to Medium quickly and easily. Even better, the IndieWeb portion that covers WebMentions brings the comments and likes from many corporate silos back to the comment section of your posts -- this way you own not only the parts you wrote and put on the silos, but you'll also own the comments too!

I've supercharged my WordPress install with IndieWeb tools and now use it as my primary hub on the internet for writing and responding. I don't spend as much time on Facebook and Twitter as all the comments I want to see on my own material come back directly to me.

If it helps, follow the advice of Dave Winer: Anywhere but Medium [http://scripting.com/liveblog/users/davewiner/2016/01/20/0900.html].

@rikmende Rick, I can't speak to stripping out your prior history of past posts, but I have used a quirky hack in the past to get around Facebook's save-for-later functionality which seems to be designed to keep you in Facebook 24/7. It'll work for your "saved" articles moving forward.

You can use this IFTTT recipe: https://ifttt.com/recipes/471081-read-it-later-on-facebook
To have it work, instead of bookmarking with Facebook's native interface, just repost/share the link/article you want to save to your own Facebook feed. If you don't want to share it with everyone, just mark the reshare as shared only with yourself and then only you would be able to see it. The IFTTT recipe will then strip the URL out of your shared post and push it to Pocket.

Note that if you POSSE to Facebook, you'll also see shared URLs for your own posts appear in Pocket from then on, but you can delete/mark as read all of those quickly enough. Or you can favorite them and push them to your public-facing Pocket shares (which are also subscribable) and consider them a form of POSSE to Pocket! Win-Win!
